Bursting (Angry No. 5)
11x14" Pastel - framed
This painting is part of a series called "Angry." This series was an exploration into my own personal anger at the shame I experienced as a woman about my own body and sexuality.
The title "Bursting" can be interpreted in different ways. When I created this painting, I was very angry about the way women are sexualized in society. Nipples have become taboo to the public, even though their function is natural and nourishes our babies. As a naturally large breasted woman, I have been subject to groping, elbow jabbing, being walked into, all so a strange man can get a feel.
On the other hand, many people see this painting as "Bursting" with love. I also have adopted this interpretation as "bursting with love for our children."
